Things are less bright than the sun and the sky, but not different in principle. They are weaker luminaries. Light … is an inherent virtue of the sky, the earth and the objects that populate them and their brightnes is periodically hidden or extinguished by darkness. To claim that these are children’s and primitives’ misconceptions eradicated by modern science, would be to close our eyes to universal visual experiences which are reflected in artistic presentation.
